Dr Sarah Brothwell
I am a Chartered Clinical Psychologist registered to practice with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC). I offer assessment and psychological therapy for a range of mental health, emotional and relationship issues for people from age 18 upwards. I see clients who are self-funding or funded by private health insurance including BUPA, AXA and AVIVA.
I work with a range of therapeutic approaches; Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy, Compassion Focussed Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR).
I offer in-person appointments in Southampton and I offer online therapy which can be accessed by anyone in the UK.
I have over 20 years experience of working in the NHS in secondary care mental health services and have also worked in private practice for the past 8 years.
I have extensive experience of providing therapy and advising on treatments for people with a wide range of mental health problems. This has included periods specialising in the following areas; Depression and Anxiety disorders, Bipolar Affective Disorder, drug and alcohol addictions, difficulties arising from loss and trauma in childhood or adult life and Complex Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).
As a senior psychologist in the NHS my role has included delivering and advising on treatment to individuals, groups, families and carers, providing clinical supervision, management and delivering training to other professionals.
Training, Qualifications and Accreditation
I gained my psychology degree from Sussex University and later completed my doctoral-level training in Clinical Psychology at Southampton University in 1999. I am registered as a practitioner psychologist with the Health Care Professions Council (HCPC) and have Chartered status as a Clinical Psychologist with the British Psychological Society.
I completed further Cognitive Behaviour Therapy training at Southampton University in 2015 (Certificate in CBT for Severe Mental Illness). I am Accredited with the British Association of Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapists (BABCP) as a CBT Therapist.
I completed the full training in Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) in 2014. I am an Accredited EMDR Practitioner with EMDR UK and Europe.
As part of each of these registrations and accreditations, I am required to attend regular training to update my qualifications and skills.
